Dear readers..
I failed the promise I made to myself.. I totally forgot to blog!! In the chaos of: finishing off my Master studies with the thesis presentation & ceremony, my parents visiting me for a week, trying to find a job.. I completely forgot that I actually started a blog, ha! :) So let's start with the updates.
After successfully finishing my master thesis & finalising my year, a graduation ceremony followed. There, we had to present our theses to professors, friends & family, and of course, afterwards there was a refreshment 'party' thingie. Let's not go in the detail of that, I think that saying 'dutch people are cheapskates' says enough :D it wasn't really a WOW ceremony - too bad though! However, I had the chance to say goodbye to my professors and fellow students. It was a bit nostalgic, but nice at the same time. I will miss the stressing study moments, complaining on assignments, staying up all night writing papers, etc. Happy stressy days :) Here's a picture of my Finnish partner in crime Virpi, will miss her for sure! <3 And a group picture with my supervisor and parents.. note that only me and my bf are actually smiling haha :)
And now the real life! Oh dear.. of course my hopes of actually finding something in my field almost completely died. After checking the available positions and the requirements, thank you, goodbye. It is insane.. even with a master done, they don't really care, since you don't have experiences.. and let's be honest, travel&leisure jobs are insanely lacking in Belgium. That's why I changed my tactics and gave it a shoot in the fashion industry. Antwerp being one of the fashion capitals, and fashion having English as lingua franca, increases the chances of an actually job - that might be even interesting! :D I wouldn't mind going into fashion marketing. So, I scored myself a temporary job at Louis Vuitton, as a client advisor. It took long 3 interviews to get through, but I hope it will be worth it :D It is a basic (quite well paid) job, but it is a start! I think it will be a good reference to future jobs in the field. Time will tell! I think that nowadays is better to be adaptable than picky in jobs, otherwise you'll likely never get where you want to go. Especially if you lack network and references. Small steps lead to great things :)
Last update that I must mention is the Film Fest Gent that I attended this week. What an awesome experience - in a cocktail dress! :D Me and my boyfriend got VIP tickets to the premiere of the festival, since his step brother is actually the actor in the movie chosen for the opening ceremony - yeah, cool stuff!! The movie was D'ardennen (english: The Ardennes) a belgian masterpiece by Robin Pront, starring Jeroen Perceval, Veerle Baetens and Kevin Janssens in the main roles. And let me tell you, it is totally worth watching! A perfect criminal drama, real and astonishing. No wonder it got a 7,7 ranking on IMDB (and the rating is rising daily haha :) ). It is THAT good. It got insane recognition at the Toronto International Film Festival. And for those that would like to get a taste of the movie, here's the trailer (btw it is now in cinemas):
Me & Jeoren at the after paty - VIP & the end of the premiere movie with the main cast! :)
Well.. that's it for today, a big update on things & thoughts as always.. Upcoming will be the unboxing of my new Singer sewing machine - yes, I am starting my journey in DIY sewing thingies.. I'm already doing a small project for my little monster Tootsie - but that's for the next blog post :)
Stay tuned! xoxo
